By executive order, President Barack Obama has ordered the expenditure of $20.3 million in "migration assistance" to the Palestinian refugees and "conflict victims" in Gaza .
The "presidential determination", which allows hundreds of thousands of Palestinians with ties to Hamas to resettle in the United States, was signed on January 27 and appeared in the Federal Register on February 4.
Few on Capitol Hill, or in the media, took note that the order provides a free ticket replete with housing and food allowances to individuals who have displayed their overwhelming support to the Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas) in the parliamentary election of January 2006.

His first call to any head of state, as president, was to Mahmoud Abbas, leader of Fatah party in the Palestinian territory.

Now we learn that he is allowing hundreds of thousands of Palestinian refuges to move to, and live in, the US at American taxpayer expense.
These important, and insightful, issues are being "lost" in the blinding bail-outs and "stimulation" packages.

Ingrid Mattson, president of the Islamic Society of North America, is scheduled to join Christian ministers and Jewish rabbis offering prayers for the new president and his family during a service at the National Cathedral in Washington, organizers announced Friday.
Mattson's group calls itself "the largest Muslim umbrella organization" in North America. However, in May 2007, federal prosecutors included ISNA on a list of nearly 300 co-conspirators filed in a criminal case charging that the Holy Land Foundation of Richardson, Tex. funneled more than $12 million to Hamas.

Chief Justice John Roberts delivered the oath to Obama on Wednesday night at the White House — a rare do-over. The surprise moment came in response to Tuesday's much-noticed stumble, when Roberts got the words of the oath a little off, which prompted Obama to do so, too.
Don't worry, the White House says: Obama has still been president since noon on Inauguration Day.
Nevertheless, Obama and Roberts went through the drill again out of what White House counsel Greg Craig called "an abundance of caution."...
"Yes, I am," Obama said. "And we're going to do it very slowly."
Roberts then led Obama through the oath without any missteps.
The president said he did not have his Bible with him, but that the oath was binding anyway.
The original, bungled version on Tuesday caught observers by surprise and then got replayed on cable news shows.
It happened when Obama interrupted Roberts midway through the opening line, in which the president repeats his name and solemnly swears.
Next in the oath is the phrase " ... that I will faithfully execute the office of president of the United States." But Roberts rearranged the order of the words, not saying "faithfully" until after "president of the United States."
That appeared to throw Obama off. He stopped abruptly at the word "execute."
Recognizing something was off, Roberts then repeated the phrase, putting "faithfully" in the right place but without repeating "execute."
But Obama then repeated Roberts' original, incorrect version: "... the office of president of the United States faithfully."
Craig, the White House lawyer, said in a statement Wednesday evening: "We believe the oath of office was administered effectively and that the president was sworn in appropriately yesterday. Yet the oath appears in the Constitution itself. And out of the abundance of caution, because there was one word out of sequence, Chief Justice John Roberts will administer the oath a second time."
The Constitution is clear about the exact wording of the oath and as a result, some constitutional experts have said that a do-over probably wasn't necessary but also couldn't hurt. Two other previous presidents have repeated the oath because of similar issues, Calvin Coolidge and Chester A. Arthur. "

Founder of ASSIST Ministries Saturday, January 24, 2009 "LONDON, UK (ANS) -- The Evangelical Alliance UK is sending President Barack Obama a new Bible after reports that one was mysteriously absent from his second swearing in.
Dr Krish Kandiah, Director of Churches in Mission for the Evangelical Alliance, will post a copy of an edition of the Bible that highlights issues of poverty and justice to the new President to make sure he has one on hand for any future need.
“President Obama’s commitment to the scripture was obvious during his inaugural address, when he quoted Paul’s letter to the Corinthians - so when we heard he didn’t swear on a Bible the second time, we could only assume it was because he couldn’t find one,” said Dr Kandiah.
“We are sending him a copy of the Bible in case he is ever Biblically caught short again. We are delighted that President Obama takes justice and the alleviation of poverty very seriously, so we will send him a Bible that focuses on these issues that are so close to his, and God’s, heart.”
President Obama said in his inaugural address: “We remain a young nation, but in the words of Scripture, the time has come to set aside childish things.”
The Evangelical Alliance will send President Obama a copy of The Poverty and Justice Bible, published by Bible Society, which is the first to highlight more than 2,000 passages that speak of God’s attitude to poverty and justice. Challenging the notion that the Bible is a dusty, outdated rulebook, it shows that, on the biggest issues of our day, God got there first – and he has something to say.
Recently British Prime Minister Gordon Brown was presented with The Poverty and Justice Bible at Downing Street. And in July last year, hundreds of Bishops carried The Poverty and Justice Bible as they marched across Westminster in a campaign against world poverty.
Peter Meadows, Associate Executive Director at Bible Society, said: “The Bible has a place in public life and government, which is why it was part of President Obama's inauguration. But it is more than symbolic. It's more than a good idea. The Bible is a reminder that true hope and real change has its root in Scripture.”

Using the so-called "human microphone" method, protestors shouted Obama down just minutes into his speech, calling attention to the arrest of peaceful protestors at Occupy movements around the country.
They were quickly countered by students, who began chanting, "Obama! Obama!"

On his radio show on Monday, conservative talk show host Rush Limbaugh said the First Lady was booed because among other things, she was “uppity.”
“We don’t like paying millions of dollars for Mrs. Obama’s vacations. The NASCAR crowd doesn’t quite understand why when the husband and the wife are going to the same place, the first lady has to take her own Boeing 757 with family and kids and hangers-on four hours earlier than her husband, who will be on his 747. NASCAR people understand that’s a little bit of a waste. They understand it’s a little bit of uppity-ism.”
Limbaugh also suggested it was Michelle Obama’s emphasis on eating well and exercising regularly that had NASCAR fans up in arms.
“We don’t like being told what to eat; we don’t like being told how much to exercise; we don’t like being told what we’ve got to drive; we don’t like wasting money; we don’t like our economy being bankrupted. We don’t like 14% unemployment. The question is, what the h--- is there to cheer for when Miss Obama and Ms. Biden show up?”

Congratulations on your Presidential Inauguration tomorrow (Tuesday, January 20th of 2009)! I like many others may have not voted for you due to various reason, such as "moral" political issues (e.g. abortion, gay marriage, etc..). However, as a "citizen" of "One" America (as stated in his political campaign speech-"There is no Liberal or Conservative America, but a UNITED States of America" (paraphrasing). I will be supporting you through my individual contribution to "making a difference" for a better community, nation, world, etc...and prayer for you, our country, world, etc.. God bless you Obama and America! "In God we Trust" (Psalm 20:4)

Though administration officials said Obama had known for some time that Summers would depart this year, news of his pending exit comes amid deep concern over the sluggish pace of the recovery, as well as criticism of the team that conceived the administration's economic policies...
Obama has already lost two other high-level economic advisers: budget director Peter Orszag and the chief of the Council of Economic Advisers, Christina Romer, both of whom resigned this summer. Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner would be the only one of Obama's top-tier economic advisers to remain with the administration should he stay through the end of the year...

Obama urges staying in school
"President Obama delivers a hotly debated back-to-school speech to students across the country."
"WASHINGTON – Crumbling inner-city sidewalks, cleaner air, dirtier drinking water, more debt for some college students and higher heating costs for low-income families could be part of the legacy of President Barack Obama's proposed budget. One way or another, his effort to save money in hundreds of programs might touch every American.
No rewrite of the family budget is called for at this point. Obama's plan is little more than a wish list, certain to be reshaped by Congress if it even goes anywhere. (Last year's wish list didn't.)
But it shows where Obama wants to go, how he proposes to get there and, to some extent, what spending cuts and increases he is willing to fight for in a divided Congress where Republicans want to cut far more.
So if you are an older worker looking for the government's help training for a new job, for example, you might get a little nervous. Obama wants to halve a program that helps seniors with career or community service training.
Obama's budget would squeeze the poor on several fronts, the rich on one big front — their taxes — and others in scattered ways.
People living in or needing public housing will take a hit if he gets his way. Obama wants to spend much less to maintain public housing and to build new homes for the elderly and disabled. He also wants to cut by half the grants that provide poorer families with substantial help paying their energy bills.
And low-income students may feel a pinch with the president's plan to eliminate Pell grants for summer school. The savings would be used to keep the maximum Pell grant for the regular academic year uncut.
When a Democratic president and Republican lawmakers want to cut the same program, it's a safe bet that program is at risk. So it is with public housing, some environmental programs and certain other areas of spending.
Tax increases, though, are a much iffier proposition. In his budget, Obama proposes once more to raise taxes on the rich, not just increasing their rates but limiting their charitable, mortgage-interest and state-tax deductions. He gave up trying to increase taxes on the wealthy in the last round of wrangling but is trying again.
Government is so complex and sprawling that multiple spending programs are often aimed at the same problem, or very similar ones, and it can be a fool's game trying to see how it will all shake out. Sometimes, it depends where you live.
For example, Obama is seeking big cuts in grants that help states upgrade sewage treatment and drinking water systems. As well, he wants to do away with a clean-diesel program that his administration says removed tons of pollution and made people healthier. On the other hand, he wants to spend hundreds of millions more to help states meet sweeping air pollution regulations.
After expanding other programs that help students with their college debt, Obama wants to achieve some savings for the government from the same pot. He is proposing to reduce loan subsidies for graduate and professional students, exposing some of them to interest on their college loans while they are still in school.
In other ways, too, the government would give with one hand and take with the other.
Obama proposes a whopping 68 percent increase in Transportation Department spending, with much of the money geared to fixing highways and putting more people in high-speed trains.
Yet the vision of smoother blacktop appears not to extend to all roads. Obama is proposing cuts in community development grants that hard-pressed mayors use for streets, sidewalks, water and sewers in poor neighborhoods.
Many of the changes he wants to make would play out over time. His budget stuffs in billions to improve teaching in the years ahead and specifically to recruit 100,000 math and science teachers over a decade, as well as to bring high-speed wireless to more of rural America. Health research is a big priority, with dividends to come down the road.
Much closer to the here and now is the proposed halving of the Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program, back to its level of 2008. The program cut energy costs for more than 8 million families last year, and an estimated 3.2 million families could lose the subsidies.
"This is a very hard cut," said Jack Lew, Obama's budget director, who helped to create the program in the late 1970s. "This is a cut that has real impact."

Obama, who is not a regular churchgoer, said citizenship like the practice of faith is "not a once-a-week kind of deal."
"Democracy is also an everyday activity," she said. "And being an engaged citizen should once again be a daily part of our lives."

The first lady said such engagement involved "the tireless, the thankless, relentless work of making change, you know, the phone-calling, letter-writing, door-knocking, meeting-planning kind of work."
Her appearance at the Gaylord Opryland Resort in Nashville, Tenn., was dubbed an official event by the White House to recognize the history and legacy of the AME church, particularly its role in the civil rights movement.
"Time and again, history has shown us that there is nothing - nothing - more powerful than ordinary citizens coming together for a just cause," Obama said. "And that is particularly true of folks in the AME church."

"LONDON – President Barack Obama stepped into the White House pledging to end George W. Bush's gloves-off approach to interrogations and detention — but a flood of leaked documents suggests that some old habits were hard to break.
Field reports from the Iraq war published by WikiLeaks show that, despite Obama's public commitment to eschew torture, U.S. forces turned detainees over to Iraqi forces even after signs of abuse.
Documents also show that U.S. interrogators continued to question Iraqi detainees, some of whom were still recovering from injuries or whose wounds were still visible after being held by Iraqi security forces....
WikiLeaks recently published almost 400,000 U.S. military logs, mainly written by soldiers on the ground, detailing daily carnage in Iraq since the 2003 U.S.-led invasion: detainees abused by Iraqi forces, insurgent bombings, sectarian executions and civilians shot at checkpoints by U.S. troops.
In one leaked document from a U.S. military intelligence report filed Feb. 9, 2009 — just weeks after Obama ordered U.S. personnel to comply with the Geneva Conventions — an Iraqi says he was detained by coalition forces at his Baghdad home and told he would be sent to the Iraqi army if he didn't cooperate. According to the document, the detainee was then handed over to Iraqis where he said he was beaten and given electric shocks....
One report by a U.S. interrogation detention team based in Baghdad on April 2, 2009, summarizes claims made by a prisoner who said he was hog tied and beaten with a shovel as part of dayslong torture ordeal at the hands of the Iraqi army. The report noted he had a catalog of "minor injuries," including "rope burns on the back of his legs and a possible busted ear drum."...
While there's no proof in any of the files that the U.S. or its allies directly mistreated detainees, there were at least four allegations where coalition troops were accused of prisoner abuse after Obama signed his executive order. ...

Earlier this year when I was recording American Prayer, a song I originally co-wrote with Bono, the phrase, "When you get to the top of the mountain, remember me" seemed to take on a whole new resonance, given the inspirational candidacy of Barack Obama. The song always contained one of my favorite passages from Dr. King, which was hauntingly delivered the night before he was assassinated. King says: "I just want to do God's will. And He's allowed me to go up to the mountain. And I've looked over. And I've seen the Promised Land. I may not get there with you. But I want you to know tonight, that we, as a people, will get to the Promised Land!" People long for a connection— whether it is to music, to their country, or to a big idea. Regardless of what happens in November, Senator Obama has reminded millions of people that they have the power to connect to bigger ideas. He is, in essence, the embodiment of a new anthem for change. He has continued King's narrative from what was once thought of as a dream to a reality. I find it especially relevant that Barack Obama will accept the Democratic Party Nomination for President 45 years to the day of King's "I Have a Dream" speech.
When we were originally writing the song, Bono was crafting the words in a way that would make people think about the fact that 'America' as a concept was a truly great idea, based on the bedrock of equality. I find it more pertinent than ever to release it now; to the moment America finds itself in, daring to re-imagine itself and its place in the world.

"President Obama had his first meeting with Rev. Billy Graham on Sunday, stopping at the Blue Ridge Mountains retreat of the 91-year old evangelist on his way to West Virginia to eulogize the 29 coal miners who died there.
"The President had a private prayer and conversation with Rev. Graham," said White House spokesman Bill Burton. "He is extraordinarily gratified that he took the time to meet with him."
Graham issued a statement after the meeting, saying ""I am pleased to have had President Obama in my home this afternoon. I want to encourage Christians everywhere to pray for our president and for all those in positions of authority and especially for the men and women serving in our military."
The Charlotte Observer said Graham's son, Franklin, who also was on hand, said "Daddy reminisced a little bit about the first time he met a president, Truman. My father told the president that he stays out of politics (now). And the president said, 'I wish I could.' "
The Observer also quoted Graham spokesman Larry Ross as saying that Obama had told Graham, as have other chief executives, how lonely, demanding and humbling the presidency can be.
Obama had been supposed to meet Graham during the 2008 campaign when he was at a nearby resort preparing for a debate with Republican John McCain. But Graham, in frail health, was not well enough that day to meet Obama and the visit was put off. Obama did speak to Graham by telephone on his birthday last November.
During the call, they talked again about meeting and Obama, who had been on a getaway weekend with First Lady Michelle in nearby Asheville, made the 15 mile trip to Graham's Montreat home.
"Reverend Graham has obviously been an important spiritual leader for past presidents and for the American people for decades," said Burton. "He's a real treasure for our country. The president appreciates the opportunity to visit him at his home."
On Graham's health, Burton told reporters while Obama was inside that it "sounds like he's pretty good. Sounds like he's got some of the creaks that come with advancing age bu he's still as sharp as he ever was."
Graham, who suffers from failing eyesight and hearing, now has had meetings with 12 presidents including Obama and has been a frequent guest at the White House. Three former presidents -- Jimmy Carter, George H.W. Bush and Bill Clinton -- helped the evangelist dedicate the Billy Graham Library in Charlotte, N.C. in 2007.
Also present was Graham's son, Franklin, who has been in the midst of a controversy after the military rescinded an invitation to him to attend a prayer service at the Pentagon.
The Pentagon disinvited the younger Graham because of remarks he made in 2001 describing Islam as evil. An Army spokesman called the remarks "not appropriate." The May 6 event was organized by the National Day of Prayer Task Force of which Graham is honorary co-chair. The task force coordinates the event with the Pentagon chaplain's office.
Franklin Graham said the subject came up during the visit and that Obama had said he'd look into it, but Graham didn't know if he would be re-invited, according to the Observer.

"WASHINGTON (ANS) -- President Obama delivered remarks for the third year in a row at the National Prayer Breakfast, which offered a glimpse of his personal faith and a few of the people who have influenced his spiritual growth.
With his wife Michelle, Vice-President Biden, and many other Washington dignitaries looking on, he spoke with some humility of his place in God’s created order.
"No matter how much responsibility we have, how fancy our titles, how much power we think we hold, we are imperfect vessels. We can all benefit from turning to our Creator, listening to Him. Avoiding phony religiosity, listening to Him,” he noted.
Despite enormous demands for his time, the president said his daily routine includes a short devotional at the start of the day. “I wake up each morning and I say a brief prayer, and I spend a little time in scripture and devotion.”
President Obama mentioned personal phone calls, visits and prayers with two influential spiritual leaders: Joel Hunter, a mega church pastor from Florida, and with T.D. Jakes, a mega church pastor from Texas.
The president said his personal faith often guides his public policy choices. “When I decide to stand up for foreign aid, or prevent atrocities in places like Uganda, or take on issues like human trafficking, it’s not just about strengthening alliances, or promoting democratic values, or projecting American leadership around the world, although it does all those things and it will make us safer and more secure. It’s also about the biblical call to care for the least of these –- for the poor; for those at the margins of our society."
Even sincere believers will disagree about politics, he said, quoting C.S. Lewis: “Christianity has not, and does not profess to have a detailed political program. It is meant for all men at all times, and the particular program which suited one place or time would not suit another.”

The president took note of a gathering of young people in Atlanta known as the Passion Conference, which raised several million dollars to fight human trafficking. “Last month, it was inspiring to see thousands of young Christians filling the Georgia Dome at the Passion Conference, to worship the God who sets the captives free and work to end modern slavery.
One consistent theme President Obama pressed is to live out one’s faith in an authentic way.
"I think we all understand that these values cannot truly find voice in our politics and our policies unless they find a place in our hearts. The Bible teaches us to ‘be doers of the word and not merely hearers.’ We’re required to have a living, breathing, active faith in our own lives. And each of us is called on to give something of ourselves for the betterment of others -- and to live the truth of our faith not just with words, but with deeds.
President Obama quoted from the Book of John to encourage help for the poor, “If anyone has material possessions and sees his brother in need but has no pity on him, how can the love of God be in him? Dear children, let us not love with words or tongue but with actions and in truth.”

"Albuquerque, New Mexico (CNN) -- An event billed as a discussion on the economy turned personal Tuesday when a woman asked President Barack Obama about his Christian faith and views on abortion.
The question came at a town hall-style meeting in the yard of an Albuquerque home as part of Obama's public outreach to explain his policies and campaign for Democrats in the November congressional elections.
With a recent survey showing that only a third of Americans can correctly identify Obama as a Christian, the president gave a personal account of his conversion as an adult and how his public service is part of his faith.
"I am a Christian by choice," Obama began, standing beneath a blazing sun, when asked why he is a Christian.
"I came to my Christian faith later in life, and it was because the precepts of Jesus Christ spoke to me in terms of the kind of life that I would want to lead," Obama said. "Being my brothers' and sisters' keeper. Treating others as they would treat me. And I think also understanding that, you know, that Jesus Christ dying for my sins spoke to the humility that we all have to have as human beings."
Humans are "sinful" and "flawed" beings that make mistakes and "achieve salvation through the grace of God," the president continued, adding that we also can "see God in other people and do our best to help them find their, you know, their own grace."
"So that's what I strive to do," Obama said. "That's what I pray to do everyday. I think my public service is part of that effort to express my Christian faith."
At the same time, Obama emphasized his belief that freedom of religion is "part of the bedrock strength" of the United States.
"This is a country that is still predominantly Christian, but we have Jews, Muslims, Hindus, atheists, agnostics, Buddhists" and others, he said, adding that "their own path to grace is one that we have to revere and respect as much as our own, and that is part of what makes this country what it is."
The same questioner also asked Obama about regulations on early and late-term abortion, a politically charged issue in the abortion debate.
Obama responded that abortion should be "safe, legal and rare" in America, adding that families -- not the government -- "should be the ones making the decision."
Restrictions against late-term abortion are in place now, he said, adding that "people still argue and disagree about it. That's part of our Democratic tradition."
On September 19, Obama publicly attended church for the first time in nearly six months when the first family joined the 9 a.m. service at St. John's Church Lafayette Square, an Episcopal congregation about a block from the White House.
The family sat a few rows from the altar, among roughly 40 worshippers. Each family member received communion, led by the president.
A survey conducted in late July and early August by the Pew Forum on Religion and Public Life found that nearly one in five Americans believe Obama is a Muslim, up from around one in 10 Americans who said he was Muslim last year.
The number of Americans who expressed uncertainly about the president's religion, meanwhile, is much larger and has also grown, including among Obama's political base. For instance, fewer than half of Democrats and African-Americans now say that Obama is Christian.
According to the Pew survey released last month, most of those who think Obama is Muslim are Republicans, but the number of independents who believe he is Muslim has expanded significantly, from 10 percent last year to 18 percent this summer.
In March 2009, 36 percent of African-Americans said they didn't know what religion Obama practices. Now, 46 percent of African-Americans say they don't know, according to the survey."

"President Barack Obama on Friday morning publicly addressed the Aurora, Colo., movie theater shooting that killed at least 12 people, calling Americans to prayer and suspending his day of campaigning in Fort Myers, Fla., in an act of mourning.
"There are going to be other days for politics. This is a day for prayer and for reflection," Obama told the crowd, who appeared confused minutes before.
Obama had abruptly turned to the tragedy during the middle of his campaign speech, after being made aware of the case. At the end of his remarks, the president asked for a moment of silence for the 12 victims killed and estimated 34 others injured in the shooting that occurred after midnight Friday morning.
Obama told the Florida crowd how "heartbroken we are" that one could "terrorize their fellow human beings like this," and called the early morning shooting a "senseless" and "heinous crime."
The gunman, suspected to be 24-year-old James Holmes, opened fire on a crowded movie theater during the late night premiere showing of Batman's "The Dark Night Rises" at the Century 16 Theaters.
About 20 minutes in to the midnight premiere, Holmes allegedly kicked open the emergency exit of the theater and began shooting randomly as he walked up the steps of the theater toward the main exit.
He allegedly opened tear gas canisters, and some victims reported feeling shrapnel hitting their face.
Several weapons were found in the theater, and Holmes reportedly wore a gas mask, a bullet proof vest, and a riot helmet. He was arrested near his car, parked in the back of the theater.
